The culture of remakes is not new in Bollywood. It has been making it since time immemorial. Whenever a film gets critical and masses’ acclaim, whether it is in the southern film industry or Hollywood, that film is most likely to be remade in Bollywood casting big names. There have been times when the films have been successfully made but then also at times, they failed to bring that charm on screen. Here’s us telling you which were the 5 worst remakes of Hollywood films by Bollywood.
1. Fool N Final
Snatch: Snatch was one of the best films released in the comedy genre in Hollywood. Though, when it was released in Bollywood starring Sunny Deol, Ayesha Talia, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles it failed to bring that charm on screen. The comedy elements got lost and the fun part faded. It was a box office debacle and poor execution of a successful film.
2. Dil Bole Hadippa
She’s the man: A movie which was a situational comedy based on Shakespeare’s play Twelveth night, this film was a celebrated one in Hollywood. But then directors in Bollywood chose to remake it casting Rani Mukerji and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The forced sequences of India Pakistan and sports melodrama didn’t do much for the film. It was easy forgettable.
3. Action replayy
Back to the future: Robert Zemeckis’ classic film Back to the future had the worst possible remake in Bollywood by Vipul Shah starring Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar. The film had a very terrible story changes and the humour was lost by those changes. Even being bagged by veteran actors like Kirron Kher and Om Puri this film failed miserably to bring audience into the theater.
4. Kyunki main jhooth Nahi bolta
Liar Liar: One of those actors who has mostly given cringe worthy and problematic content in 90s cinema is undoubtedly Govinda. This movie was a blatant rip off if Jim Carrey’s cult classic. This movie had a weak screenplay and also over the top performances by actors. Easily a failed attempt!
5. Kucch toh hai
I know what you did last summer: Tushar Kapoor and Esha Deol in lead roles in this one of the best thrillers in Hollywood! This itself is a big takeaway. The film here had become quite predictable and exaggerated to watch. Also, the unnecessary songs and romance angles didn’t quite match with the pace of the film.
