CSK Player Harbhajan Singh Pulls Out From The IPL 2020

Harbhajan Singh

Chennai Super King will be without the service of the veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh in the IPL 2020 due to some personal reasons.

As we all know that Harbhajan Singh played a key role in CSK’s success in IPL. But on 4 Sept 2020, he announced that he would not be playing in the IPL 2020 for some personal reason.

He is the second Chennai Super King player to pull out of the tournament. Last week, Suresh Raina had also decided against playing the league. He had flown to UAE but came back due to personal reasons. CSK now has a tough task to pick a suitable replacement for Harbhajan Singh.

“We have still not spoken about calling on any replacement. It is all on the team captain and coach to decide and ask for the replacements. The team will act according to their instructions”, said CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

CSK have enough spin options in their squad like:

Manoj Tiwary

The Bengal veteran won’t be a like-to-like replacement for Harbhajan but given his all-round skills, Tiwary will be a strong addition to the squad. He now has a similar action to KedarJadhav and is also a handy customer with the bat.

He has plenty of experience of playing under MS Dhoni and has also played 98 IPL matches. Interestingly, Tiwary responded to a tweet soon after Harbhajan was ruled out and hinted that he wants to make a comeback. He went unsold in IPL 2019 and 2020 auctions.

Harsh Tyagi

The left-arm spinner from Railways was expected to be part of IPL in the past couple of seasons but he hasn’t been part of an IPL team so far. Though he remains to be in the scheme of things and has flown to UAE as a net bowler with one of the teams. He could be a strong contender to replace Harbhajan Singh if CSK decides to rope in a young spinner.

Jalaj Saxena

India A player has played 54 T20s so far, in which he has 633 runs and 49 wickets.  He hasn’t played T20 cricket much but has an experience of playing 123 first-class matches. Saxena has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals in past. He hasn’t played an IPL game but represented Mumbai in the Champions League.
