The expert Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh announced on September 4, that he will not be able to play in the IPL 2020 season. He said it was due to some personal reasons, Harbhajan Singh asked for some privacy as he wants to spend time with his family during these problematic times.

He clarified that there hasn’t been any fallout between him and the CSK management, saying that the team has been tremendously compassionate of the decision he made.

KS Viswanathan has also released a statement through the team’s Twitter handle, saying he ropes for Harbhajan Singh’s decision to not play this year.

The channels are seeing him as a commentator.

This is being seen as a huge loss for the three-time IPL champions, and that their loss may become someone else’s gain. According to an ANI report, Indian broadcaster giants Star India, the owners of the Star Sports group of channels, have expressed interest in having the experienced spinner on the commentary panel for IPL 2020.

The official said that since the commentary panel members’ names have to be submitted by the next week, the network is looking forward to taking on Singh as a commentator.

Adding to his statement, the official also said, “This experience would not be anything out of the ordinary for Singh, as he has already performed commentary duties for Star Sports in many previous matches.”

CSK is already in its difficult times

Harbhajan Singh’s decision will be worse for an already annihilated CSK this IPL. Thirteen people on the team have tested positive for coronavirus, which includes bowler Deepak Chahar and batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Vice-captain Suresh Raina, who has been a permanent fixture in the MS Dhoni-led side, will also be skipping this year’s tournament citing personal reasons. The team has finally started practicing in Dubai after their quarantine period was extended. IPL 2020 will commence on September 19.
